I love Miles Davis' music. I was lucky enough to see Miles perform live a year before he died in Atlanta at the JVC Jazz Festival. However, when I hear the thought of Miles Davis' music being used in hip hop, I get a little skeptical. Some hip hop producers can do it just right, others, well, should have never even attempted it in the first place.
A very well-known producer will attempt to create a collection of Miles Davis remixes. He goes by the name of Ski Beatz. To most, his name might not be recognizable, but his productions have been featured on some of the most well known hip hop releases. He has produced several tracks for the classic Jay-Z album "Reasonable Doubt." He has worked with such artists as Mos Def, Jean Grae, Jay Electronica, and Camp Lo to name a few. Now he takes on the legendary jazz artist Miles Davis. This remix project is sanction by the estate of Miles Davis and Sony Records. Below is a video of Ski Beatz take on "Blue and Green" from Miles' 1959 album, "Kind Of Blue". The song features Ski Beatz's band The Senseis and New Orleans raised rapper/producer Nesby Phips. I still don't know what I think, and I would love your thoughts on the song in the comments below.
Here is the original for reference in case you need it.
