"Meet The Need": Day 19 of 50 | Young Leaders Helping Create Young Leaders

Listen: On Day 19 of 50 in Meet The Need, we get to know Lead2Change, an incredibly unique youth program combining two simple ideas we've already in this year's Meet The Need campaign -- youth programming and funding. While neither in isolation are new ideas, Lead2Change's concept combines them in unexpected way -- put both the ideas for programming and the decisions about what gets funded in the hands of youth. Young people, imagining and implementing change throughout the entire process.

Two of the talented Lead2Change Council Members, Tyler Traband and Mariah Scott, introduce us to the work they've been doing:

-High school students themselves, Mariah and Tyler introduce us to the opportunities they're making possible for other youth:

-Two summers ago, when Lead2Change was known as the Youth In Service Fund, they spent a few months visiting youth programs throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Ozaukee counties, surveying other youth about their need. Because of a project we were working on at the station, I actually had a chance to go along with them on one of their visits, and I was blown away at how effective and productive their visits were:

-Tyler shares a story from that surveying process -- many of the teens they encountered had plenty to share, but hadn't previously found an outlet for their ideas:

-First, Tyler and Mariah give a few examples of youth-led programs they've funded, followed by some thoughts from Program Manager Quianna Monroe on why Lead2Change has been effective:

-If you, your kids, or youth you know might be interested in Lead2Change, there are plenty of ways to get involved:

This year, we ask you to adopt one or two organizations that connect with you. Want to get involved with Lead2Change? Donate, volunteer, or check out their work yourself. And you can start with their website or follow them on Twitter.
