"Meet the Need": Day 48 of 50 | Career Training for Youth with Job Corp

Job Corp is a national career training program that helps teens and young adults prepare for the job world. It can help students get a high school diploma and teach them a specific skill set like welding and carpentry.

Students stay on campus at branches around the US. Milwaukee just opened a brand new Job Corp campus on the northwest side near 60th and Green Tree Road. I spoke with Directors Don Thompson and Vera Ford about what Job Corp plans to do here.

Director of Residential Living Vera Ford on how Job Corp teaches more than just how to do a specific job:

One of Vera’s jobs working for Job Corp was to find successful Job Corp graduates around the country. She tracked down one of her old classmates from her time at the Job Corp branch in California, a man famous for ‘knocking out the fat’ and his opponents in the ring.

Job Corp is looking for volunteers to help out in any way they can. They have options for different levels of commitment whether it be helping out around the office or helping develop the curriculum.

This year, we ask you to adopt one or two organizations that connect with you. Want to get involved with Job Corp here? Visit their website for an easy way to get started.
