Listen: I'm always hunting for new frontiers and Milwaukee never fails me. It's such a privilege to be constantly discovering and sharing the city where I've grown up. When I asked Reggie Baylor to explore hidden gems with me, I had no idea how fun and challenging the week would be ( Martha shared the most beautiful I've ever heard and Sweet Water Organics was eye-opening) and this next step was totally on par with the level of adventure.
When I first saw the address, near the intersection of Teutonia and Hampton, I was excited to see what kind of creative venture had taken hold on the North Side of Milwaukee (on a personal note, I feel like we don't get into that part of Milwaukee enough). So, on a cold Monday morning, we got a full tour of Gasoline Studios.
"It'll spark a lot -- but don't worry, they won't hurt."
Gasoline Studios is a home for the artistic gear head -- people who love tearing apart vehicles and putting them back together with imagination and verve. It was, as I say in the piece, an incredibly visual experience, but Justin Gaver from Gasoline Studios makes it come to life in this piece:
As I was listening to the audio from the tour and thinking about music to match, the band MSTRKRFT immediately stuck in my mind. So, all the music comes from a greasy garage rock meets french house hybrid -- feels appropriate, right?
