Capitol Heights Summer Youth Work Program/Neighborhood Project Week 8

When driving through the Capitol Heights Neighborhood, you'll see beautifully landscaped homes, but what's important to note are the people and efforts behind each lawn. Twelve students took part in the Capitol Heights Summer Youth Work Program where they provided lawn care service for roughly 60 homes throughout the neighborhood.

Each student was involved in pulling weeds, mowing the grass, trimming the hedges, sweeping, and much more. Several elderly and disabled residents aren't able to take care of their lawns, and the program bridged the gap between the youth and elderly.

I spoke with the Antoinette Vaughn, Capitol Heights Healthy Neighborhood Coordinator and Organizer of this year's Summer Youth Work Program. Also, a few of the students who braved the summer heat sat down with me to explain what they gained from the work experience.

The program is based out of the Albright United Methodist Church in the Capitol Heights Neighborhood. To learn how hard they worked, just take a listen...
