Unity in Motion/Make a Difference Week 3

Walk into a Unity in Motion sessionand you'll find a plethora of activities. This may range from karate, dance, mentoring, or one-on-one tutoring sessions, but overall it's a long term commitment to Milwaukee's central city youth. Unity in Motion is a nonprofit organization that stays with youth from adolescence all the way through early adulthood, with a mission to help foster personal development and give educational support.

Unity in Motion's program is built upon strong partnerships, from the youth and their families to quality Milwaukee schools and youth organizations. It's been in place for over ten years, with a 100% retention rate within this past year. There's over 80 volunteers aiding the youth through mentorship and tutoring, along with partners including St. Marcus Lutheran School, CEO Leadership Academy, Milwaukee College Preparatory, Milwaukee Renaissance Academy, Greendale High School, NOVA High School, and PEARLS for Teen Girls.

I sat down with Executive Director and Founder of Unity in Motion, Allen Ruppel. We talked about how the program makes a significant difference for our city's youth and the importance of long-term relationships. I also spoke with some students and parents on the type of educational and personal support they received from the program.

*Unity in Motion is constantly expanding and there's ways you can get involved. If you'd like to offer yours skills as a volunteer, either with mentoring, tutoring, karate, or dance, then click here for more information.
