Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful has forged a beautiful relationship with Humboldt Park Charter School. Students enrolled in Healthy Planet, Healthy You (an after-school environmental education program for early elementary students) learn about environmental stewardship, sustainability, and activism through developmentally appropriate curriculum.The program is being piloted first at HPCS, and will, ideally, be adopted by other schools in the not-so-distant future.
I visited the school and met with Emily Brown and Miss Uliya (both educators for Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful), and spoke with some the kids enrolled in the program. They showed me some pretty nasty water: filled with cigarette butts, newspaper chunkers, magazine shreds, (among other things) and talked with me about how they feel they THEY can make a difference with the environment.
