Girls on the Girlis a positive youth development program that combines an interactive curriculum and running, while also boosting the girls’ self esteem and healthy lifestyle habits. The curriculum focuses on many aspects of a pre-teens’ development, including their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. The ultimate goal is to inspire girls to be happy, healthy and confident while experiencing a curriculum that integrates running.
Girls on the Run is for girls in 3 rd through 5 th grade, while Girls on Track is for girls in 6 th through 8 th grade. During the 10-week or 12-week program, the girls and their coaches work on teamwork, personal values, and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. The girls also choose and work on a community service project. Then, near the end of each program, the girls run or walk a 5k as a group.
So I went to Milwaukee College Prep to witness a Girls on the Run practice and to speak with Council Director, Zarine Anklesaria. Click the podcast below to hear more about GOTR of Greater Milwaukee!
