Digging the wax...deep funk from Nigeria's Solo Hit

Sound Travels got the midday started with an incredibly funky, hard-to-find groover from one of Benin City's hidden treasures; an amazing tune that comes from an obscure group out of Benin City. Benin City is like Kansas City in that it's actually in Nigeria, not Benin just as Kansas City(the one people talk most about) is in Missouri. I digress...but this band is a musical digression, having enjoyed the briefest of successes in their home country after being discovered by legendary Nigerian guitar wizard, Sir Victor Uwaifo in the 60's and putting out only one lonely 45 record. That record was re-discovered earlier this year by the good folks at Analog Africa and true to form, released in limited number.

Fortunately, it appears that all the copies haven't been sold and I found several online in a matter of seconds. If you've got a turntable, and live for obscure, funky delicacies from places like West Africa, get one. Both cuts on the record are dope, and I played "Imoikeme" at around 10am...
