New sustainable park unveiled in Walker's Point

A Walker's Point park is getting an eco-friendly redesign, thanks to a collaboration of community organizations.

Over the next year and a half, Paliafito Eco-Arts Park will see major improvements including an amphitheater, raised and vertical garden beds, rainwater reclamation and public art installations.

And because of the park's proximity to Bradley Tech High School, MPS students will have the opportunity to get hands-on work experience in the trades.  The high school will also donate student-designed benches and bike racks.

The half-acre site at S. 3rd and W. Walker streets is currently a public park, but has not seen improvements in nearly 15 years.

The nonprofit organization Arts @ Large is leading the development, in partnership with the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Public Schools, UW-Extension, Reflo and others.

Arts @ Large is still seeking approximately $50,000 to fund the ampitheater construction, according to Co-Founder Terri Sullivan.
