Happy 60th Birthday Colin Moulding (XTC)

While XTC has not been active in the last decade -- and even then it was two tracks they contributed to a reissue -- the band left an indelible mark on the musical landscape of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

The intricate melodies and smart lyrics woven by Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding and Dave Gregory influenced countless bands like Jellyfish all the way to Primus, who've covered several XTC songs over the years.

Toward the tail end of its run, in 1995, XTC was the subject of a tribute album called "A Testimonial Dinner," which was chock full of-the moment 90's acts, such as Crash Test Dummies, The Verve Pipe and Spacehog. Yet, notably, it lacked a Primus contribution.

The best of the lot was Freedy Johnston's reading of "Earn Enough For Us" from XTC's landmark "Skylarking" album.

Here's the original:

And sadly, Freedy's version isn't available online in video form.
