State of Sound: Ellie Jackson, Rat Bath, Bear in the Forest
Every month, 88Nine invites a packed roster of Wisconsin artists to take the stage at our Walker's Point home so we can celebrate the talent that runs deep throughout the Badger State. They provide the music, Discourse serves up the beverages, and we all get another great night in Milwaukee.
November State of Sound lineup
Ellie Jackson delivers determined vulnerability and emotional exploration through guitars, stories, amplification, and a careful balance of harmony and dissonance.
Rat Bath is a band of all trans-gender individuals that reclaim queer-coded villains from their childhood as heros in their storytelling and strive for visibility in the music industry. They describe their sound as "Post-Everything Rat Core" but have also been called Bubble Grunge, Alternative Emo, Dirt Americana and Melodic Hardcore. Whichever way you slice it; they are fast, loud, and have a unique ability to seamlessly blend influences together.
Bear in the Forest is the project of Alberto “Bear” Kanost. Hailing from New Orleans and living now in Madison, Kanost was inspired and driven by music from a young age, and was fortunate to be accepted into the First Wave scholarship program at UW-Madison. That training combined with inspiration from artists such as Bon Iver and Hozier results in music rooted in personal experience, and the trials and tribulations of the world.
