This Thursday’s State of Sound — our locally fueled live music show — will bring a little holiday cheer to your ears with a festive special featuring local artists Sarah Fierek, REYNA and Donna Re'nee, all of whom have new holiday material to dish out.
Adding to the spirit of the evening, Discourse Coffee will host a pop-up cash bar starting at 5 p.m., and Hashtag MKE will host a free headshot event available to all attendees from 6 to 8 p.m. If anyone you know is in need of a new, professional pic, take advantage! Donna “Re’nee” Lewis is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter, self-taught guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who comes from a musically inclined family, being the youngest daughter of the late jazz trumpeter Don Lewis. With a love for ’70s soul, rhythmic ’90s and early 2000s music, Lewis brings her inspirations to life though contemporary R&B.
REYNA joins us hot off the heels of their new EP, Limonada. This time, they’ll share their newest holiday song, “Home Alone.” Sisters Vic Banuelos and Gabby Banuelos (known for their “glossy, ‘80s-inspired electro-pop) have opened for CHVRCHES, Death Cab for Cutie and The Naked and Famous, and have played festivals such as Summerfest, SXSW and Lincoln Calling.
Sarah Fierek’s music is always bent on supporting a cause for good, and her latest holiday song is no different. The recently released “Light It Up” (her fourth holiday original) will support veterans, active military and their families.
