Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks sponsored by Educators Credit Union.
There’s something very cool about seeing a new band burst into the collective consciousness of the music scene. One moment you had no idea they existed, then suddenly they’re inescapable. This Friday brings one of those promise-fulfilling groups to the Very FamousTM X-Ray Arcade (and Radio Milwaukee … more on that later).
Granted, the non-bursting part of Wishy’s career was relatively brief. Formed by Nina Pitchkites and Kevin Krauter just a couple years ago, they put out a pair of EPs in 2023 before sharing their debut full-length, Triple Seven, this past summer. In short, people dug it.
Across the album’s 10 tracks, you’ll find shoegaze and power-pop and distortion and towering riffs and more touchstones of rock music from the past couple decades. Yet it all comes together like a dish that, on paper, has too many ingredients to coalesce in any kind of tasty way. But tasty it is, and the Indianapolis-based quintet will spoon it out in big helpings Friday at X-Ray Arcade with openers Joyer and Barely Civil.
Before the main course, though, Wishy will swing by Studio Milwaukee for a sonic appetizer at noon, which means you still have time to score an invite.
