If the stay-at-home order has taught me anything, it's taught me to love more and reach out to everyone and anyone that is like minded and loves music. I am having as much fun as I can setting up the these line-ups every week for our revamped four hour mix show. So much so, that I forgot to post last weeks episode to our website! Where do I begin? In the previous two weeks we've hosted six wonderful DJs from many different backgrounds, musical styles and diverse locations.
Let me start off with a mix I took much pride in performing. The set boasted new music from Elderbrook, Diplo, Wax Motifand a new song from Mark Knight, The Melodie Men & Laura Davie called ' If It's Love.' Recently hundreds of fans and house music lovers took to social media and recorded themselves dancing and singing along with the track. It's an awesome reminder of the power music has during such turbulent times in our world. #staysafe #stayhome
This was DJ Merow's first time on In the Mix and she did not disappoint. I actually discovered Merow while watching the Mixmash Records Quarantine Livestream with Laidback Luke. All the opening acts on the bill had to enter a competition to get placed on the line-up, and she was one of the winners that got that chance. She is also a really good producer and just dropped a track called ' Breathe' with Henri Victory. This young phenom rocked the 88Nine airwaves with some boomin' tracks and hard hittin' bass!
I love the homies, Moses and Tista! Their musical selection is like no other DJs in the city. They have the biggest spirit and come up with fun ideas for cool events in Milwaukee. They created Non Pop!, an event housed at Site1A and This Is It! (We all hope to be back after the stay-at-home is lifted). During the events you would find visuals by the amazing VJ Brye, special guest DJs, along side Lisza Battikha and other fine muralist and painters creating amazing art pieces throughout the evening. Oh, and we can't forget that each night money is raised for a local non-profit. For now, you can catch them playing 5 p.m. shows Wednesdays on IG Live at Non Pop!
Nona AKA Phox is one of the most talented DJs to hit the club scene in city of Milwaukee's in the past few years. In just a short amount of time she has honor playing venues and festivals all over the Midwest such as Minneapolis, Chicago and Madison to name a few. In this mix she brought the club to the airwaves and we hope to hear more of it soon.
Captain is an awesome dude and just loves to play good music. I first saw John open a show at Site1A (for the life of me I can't remember the headliner), but he starting the evening off at 9:30 p.m. In the industry that's the time when your wait staff and bartenders are still setting up for customers. I was floored by the amount of passion and warmth Captain put forth during that time slot and any show for that matter. It's actually a testament to how much he loves being a DJ. His actions behind the booth serve as model on how you get your night started.
Tha Duke of House AKA DJ Purple is such a generous human. He lends his uplifting house sounds to Vocalo 91.1 FM, Chicago, here on 88Nine and abroad in the U.K. and Italy where he continues his higher education. Although Reginald is safe and comfortable back home in Chicago at the moment, he is eager to get back to Rome when things get better in our world. Enjoy all of our amazing mixes and stay safe.
