Our all-star concert tribute to A Tribe Called Quest is THIS Saturday!

Find Halloween on the kickball field and at our kids museum

Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Milwaukee Recreation

We’ve already seen Halloween-related events ramping up in the first couple weeks of October. But things really shift into high gear in the days ahead, including a pair of activities for those with kids and those who just want to act like one.

First up is Betty BOO’s Spooktacular happening this Thursday at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. From 3 to 6 p.m., the lakefront-adjacent combination of fun and learning will host a family-friendly Halloween event featuring a variety of seasonally appropriate activities:

  • Make glow-in-the-dark slime at the Be A Maker Space workshop
  • Trick-or-treat throughout the museum
  • Watch guest artist Amanda Smithivas take on a pumpkin-carving challenge
  • Enjoy a performance of Silly Scary Stories at the Kohl’s Wild Theater (4 p.m.)
  • Meet and greet a reptile at Tatiana’s Tiny Zoo (5 p.m.)

The museum’s regular lineup of interactive exhibits will be open, as usual, and visitors are encouraged (but not required) to wear a costume. The Spooktacular is a special ticketed event, so make sure you visit this dedicated online portal to book your spot.

If you’re looking for something geared toward the slightly older set, Milwaukee Recreation has its seventh annual Kick-or-Treat Halloween Kickball Tournament happening this Saturday. Like the museum, costumes are encouraged but not required — although this one makes it seem as though you’ll really come across as a party-pooper if you don’t dress up at least a little bit.

To sweeten the deal, there is an award for the best costume, as well as for the tournament’s first- and second-place teams. Your squad must have at least 10 players, including a minimum of four women, and pay the registration fee of $80 online here. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Burnham/Rogers Playfield (1755 S. 32nd St.).
