Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.
Back in 2022, Cinebuds made the momentous decision to go live from the Milwaukee Film Festival, with then-host Justin Barney and the always dependable Kpolly breaking down The Thing in front of a live studio audience.
Flash-forward to 2023 — same formula, slightly different ingredients as Kpolly returned but with last-minute Cine-sub Milan Zori (aka dwellephant) to take on Enter the Dragon.
This year, Kpolly went 3-for-3 in the rotating-host department as Dori finally got her chance to pull up a chair on stage at the Oriental Theatre’s Abele Cinema for a very special screening of Footloose. So if you’re keeping track at home, we started with sci-fi horror followed by martial-arts action followed by dance-musical-romance-drama(?). Perfectly natural progression.
Although, as the Cinebuds found out during this viewing of the Kevin Bacon classic, it might be more of a comedy these days. Unintentional comedy, sure, but it definitely elicited more laughs than when Dori first saw it in the theater something-something years ago.
That’s just one of the trenchant insights you can uncover when you get out of the studio and into the cinema with the movie-going public. For even more — including how Footloose ruined Dori’s GPA, some little-known trivia about the film and glitter budgets — listen to the live recording using the player on this page or via your favorite pod player.
