Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.

Beautiful animation. A heartstring-tugging story. A movie-watching experience perfect for kids and grown-ups. That’s right, we’re talking about the latest Pixar …

Hm? DreamWorks Animation? Really? OK …

That’s right, we’re talking about the latest DreamWorks Animation movie, The Wild Robot. From the studio that brought you Antz and Flushed Away, this new film with a stellar voice cast led by Lupita Nyong'o is getting a lot of attention for hitting all the right notes in the always difficult to crack “family movie but actually good” genre.

We kid DreamWorks Animation, which has turned out some solid movies in its history, including the How to Train Your Dragon series and the first Trolls movie but none of the subsequent ones. It’s possible that The Wild Robot is the studio’s best offering ever — an opinion shared by Dori and Kpolly as they break down all the goodness in this film. And there is a lot of it:

  • A ridiculously stacked voice cast that includes Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, Stephanie Hsu, and global treasures Bill Nighy and Catherine O'Hara.
  • The “absolutely breathtaking” (as Dori puts it) visuals.
  • A uniquely structured story that keeps you on your toes.
  • A lesson that connects with young and old alike.
