Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.
We aren’t even four full months into 2024, and Milwaukee’s Dan Jacobs is already having himself quite a year.
As I’m sure you already know, he’s on the Bravo airwaves (or streamwaves I guess) as one of the “cheftestants” on the current season of Top Chef. On top of that, he and Dan Van Rite — the other half of the EsterEv/DanDan duo — discovered this week that they’re among the six finalists vying for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef in Midwest” honor.
The connections to the Milwaukee area don’t end there, though. Making the cut in the category of “Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker” was Bayside native Anna Posey, the executive pastry chef at Elske, the Michelin star restaurant she opened in Chicago with her husband, David. Congrats to Anna and the Dans, one of which you’ll hear even more about later in the podcast as we:
- Recap the latest episode of Top Chef that had a distinctive cheese focus (and a solid showing by Jacobs).
- Talk about how another of Milwaukee’s finest restaurants, Amilinda, will start to-go lunch service later this month.
- Go to pie class! Well, not both of us. Just Ann, who shares her experience.
Hopefully, you learn a little something from every episode of This Bites. You can listen to the latest one using the player at the top of the page or wherever you do your podcast collecting. As always, we’d love to hear from you via a rating or review. Thanks.
