Have you ever wanted a Little Free Library in your yard? Well, you’re in luck! For the second summer in a row, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee will be installing hand-painted Little Free Libraries in the community, and stocking them with books graciously donated by Literacy Services of Wisconsin and Next Door Foundation. Enter our online contest for a chance to win one of these libraries for your yard, and share the joy of reading with your neighborhood.
Last year, we enlisted the help of local artist Dan Kirchen to build six wooden book receptacles that by summer’s end, would transform into vibrant Little Free Libraries in neighborhoods across Milwaukee and Ozaukee Counties. Throughout summer, we attended various local events and festivals (many of you stopped by our orange tent to say hello!). We welcomed the patrons of these events to assist in painting these libraries via a paint-by-numbers design, and offered the opportunity to enter a drawing to win the library they helped paint. Adults and children alike embraced their creative whimsy to bring to life these Little Free Libraries, each with their own kaleidoscopic character.
The libraries yielded many smiles, an overwhelming amount of participation and an undeniable air of positivity; we knew we had to do it again. The Little Free Library continues this year, but this time it’s virtual! Enter for a chance to win your own Little Free Library now through Monday, Sept. 7. If chosen as a winner, we’ll notify you on Sept. 7 and work together to coordinate a time to come and install your new library, free of charge. Take a book, leave a book and spread positivity!
