Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.
A couple months ago, we shared the good news about a whole bunch of Milwaukee restaurants, restaurant groups and chefs who landed on the James Beard Foundation’s semifinalist list for its annual awards. It’s time to check back in, as the foundation this week let us know who reached the next step as finalists.
Milwaukee has two representatives still in the hunt — Lupi & Iris for Best New Restaurant and Gregory León of Amilinda for Best Chef: Midwest. We talk about both at the top of this week’s episode and remind you to mark your calendar for the evening of June 5, when we’ll find out if either (or both) take home a Beardie (not its actual name).
As for what else we have on our plates to discuss:
- Blu at the Pfister will host a family-friendly, Frozen-themed tea April 6, complete with character appearances, in conjunction with the theater production at Uihlein Hall.
- Our annual spring ritual of waiting for the Nite Owl to return is over, as the burger joint reopened for the season this week.
- Bavette La Boucherie has a five-course wine dinner planned for the night of April 4 featuring selections from Long Meadow Ranch.
- Also April 4, Hacienda executive chef and culinary director Ashley Turner will appear on Chopped, and you can join the viewing party at Hacienda.
We’re glad you joined us again this week and hope you will again next week. Make it easy on yourself by subscribing wherever you listen to us, and leave a rating or review while you’re there. Thanks.
