What do you remember from seventh grade? Maybe good friends, your favorite teachers, a favorite book...
This school year, seventh graders at Greenfield Middle School are learning a lesson they won't forget; one in empathy and activism,
"We had to choose a global issue that we were passionate about and try to make change. It feels really good!" explains seventh grader, Addy.
Through a project created by teachers Stephanie Delahunt and Anna Miller, students were assigned, essentially, to go and make the world a better place- an assignment that not only takes a while to digest, but means different things to many different people.
We thought it would be a really good idea to help show the kids that they could be global citizens and part of their community and make change.
And with over two-hundred seventh graders attending Greenfield and one large goal, that adds up to a lot of students doing some good (and diverse) work - whether their raising money for homeless organizations or writing letters to veterans, to even teaching meditation to middle schoolers and encouraging meat-free eating habits.
"We thought it would be a really good idea to help show the kids that they could be global citizens and part of their community and make change," explains Delahunt, who developed the idea alongside Miller last year, "they see so much negative in the world, so we thought it would be great to have them do something positive."
Greenfield Middle School will be showing off all of their final projects at the Community Night on April 26th at 3200 W Barnard Ave in Greenfield.
