In its heyday, downtown Milwaukee's Renaissance Bookstore was lined with bookshelf after bookshelf, filled floor to ceiling with new and used books.
And today, several years after closing, it still is.
But many of the remaining books that haven't already been donated or trashed have seen some water damage, thanks to a leaky roof. A lucky few, however, sit on their original shelves, seemingly untouched.
The four-story building, sadly, wasn't so lucky. Besides the problematic roof, structural concerns and fire damage plague the property, which is now under new ownership.
OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo visited the shuttered bookstore with the owners and joined me in studio to talk about the building's future.
