One last look at Milwaukee's Ballet's headquarters before it moves

Milwaukee Ballet is deep into the construction of its new headquarters in the Third Ward, just a few steps away from Summerfest and the Italian Community Center.

Since 1981, all--literally all--of its operations were housed in one increasingly cramped space on 5th and National.

The two-story, Cream City brick building contains the Ballet's rehearsal space, costume department and administration–everything that makes the organization possible.

It's no small feat for an organization that makes it's own costumes!

As the Milwaukee Ballet leaves that building, we wondered--what was there before 1981? Turns out it was an iconic Milwaukee destination for beer drinkers and bowlers.
