88Nine is only here because of your generosity and support. You keep our lights on, literally.
That said, we want to extend an additional thank you to a group of people that really make our membership drives possible -- our phone volunteers.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., through challenges, flurries, phone static and more, our volunteers are here for you. Maybe you even spoke with one of them when you called in.
So now we want to pull back the curtain and show you some of the faces behind the phones.

How did you first discover Radio Milwaukee?
“Bought an auction item at my daughter's school to meet Dori Zori!”
Why do you donate your time to Radio Milwaukee during membership drives?
“Because it's fun to hang out with the DJs, staff and volunteers, it's easy talking to people who are happy to call in and give you their support, and because it makes a huge difference to keep 88Nine on the air, doing all the good things they do for Milwaukee!!!”

How did you first discover Radio Milwaukee?
“I had a really long commute to work and would flip though the stations. One day I found 88.9 and fell in love. It has been 12 years, and I haven't listened to anything else since.”
Why do you donate your time to Radio Milwaukee during membership drives?
“Radio Milwaukee is like family, and you do whatever you can to help family. Plus, Radio Milwaukee gives so much to the community; it's nice to give them something back.”

“The first week I moved here, I went scrolling on my dial for NPR, but I found 88Nine instead and never left.”
Why do you donate your time to Radio Milwaukee during membership drives?
“So many reasons! I love hearing stories from people all over the city about why they love Radio Milwaukee. There's also great energy in the studio during the drive that's fun to be a part of. Plus, the snacks are preeeetty great.”

“Turned the dial too far left one day looking for public radio news and landed on an Elvis Costello song.”
Why do you donate your time to Radio Milwaukee during membership drives?
“Listening is great, giving is satisfying. But volunteering gives me a real appreciation for where the money goes and how hard everyone works. I get to welcome new members as they call in for the first time and share the enthusiasm with the choice they have made. Plus, between calls I'll talk about U2 or what books I'm reading with Ken Sumka, so it’s a pretty fun day overall.”

“Flipping through radio stations, heard some tunes I really liked and investigated further!”

“The staff is so friendly and fun, the music is awesome and the station as a whole has a very positive impact on the community. I enjoy being a small piece of all of that, and I hope that my time and support helps keep the station going!”
