Take a look inside this former Schuster's department store, its future uncertain

This week on "Urban Spelunking," we visit the former Schuster's department store and current Marcia P. Coggs Human Services Center near 12th and Vliet.

The building at 1220 W. Vliet St. dates back to 1910 and is home to an array of state and local direct service organizations, including Milwaukee County's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the State of Wisconsin’s Milwaukee Enrollment Services and a food bank in the lower level.

On this week's episode, we talk about the state agencies leaving the site soon and the outlook for this building, which will be left mostly empty. What will be done with the space? Will it be torn down?

We also take a look around the site, including in the basement, to find hints from the department store days. While most of its past has been erased, OnMilwakuee's Bobby Tanzilo did find some remnants, including this neat color-coded display on the wall, presumably for employee eyes only.

Listen to this week's episode, and be sure to visit OnMilwaukee for more history and photos.
