Well, from a genre-neutral perspective, it’s pretty hard to argue that Summerfest didn’t save its biggest Amp reveal for last.
SZA — she of the blockbuster album SOS and its monster single “Kill Bill” — will headline the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on the first Saturday of the festival, June 22, with rapper-singer-songwriter Aminé opening the show.
The R&B superstar has never played Summerfest before and, to the best of my research, will make this her first concert in Milwaukee, period. Her debut album, Ctrl, broke big in 2017, but (humble brag alert) 88Nine was proud to have her in the playlist dating back to “Julia” off her 2014 EP, Z. Currently, you can hear SZA in a big way on HYFIN, including her most recent single, “Saturn.”
The Summerfest date is part of a big Midwest summer for SZA, who will also headline Lollapalooza in Chicago on Aug. 2. Your first chance to pick up tickets for the Milwaukee show is a venue presale at 10 a.m. next Tuesday, April 8, followed by the general sale the next day at 10 a.m. You can find more info on both at Ticketmaster and check out the updated Summerfest lineup right here.
