Studio Milwaukee Session: Sir Chloe

When Sir Chloe’s Dana Foote visited our Walker’s Point studios for this Studio Milwaukee Session, it took her back to a time before the whiplash-inducing experience of breaking big on either side of the pandemic.

As Foote shared with 88Nine’s Kenny Perez and a room of Radio Milwaukee members, the band had just played a room that topped out at 150 people when everything locked down. By the time Sir Chloe returned to the stage, they were sharing it with Modest Mouse at the Vic Theatre in Chicago (capacity: 1,000) and followed it up with a slot on Lollapalooza’s main stage.

Playing big spaces have become the norm for the band, who were in the midst of a North American jaunt that includes dates with Beck and Phoenix, in addition to their own gigs here and there. Still, Foote found time for this session— her first show in Wisconsin — opting for an acoustic set that fit perfectly with our slightly less than arena-sized venue, bringing her back to those more intimate, pre-pandemic shows.

Perched with her guitar in the middle of the stage, Foote shared three songs from Sir Chloe’s I Am the Dog, released this past May (pick it up on Bandcamp here). She also took a break mid-set to talk about how the album didn’t quite reach the 100% canine theme they intended, the band’s academic beginnings as a senior thesis and the two viral moments that helped Foote realize her professional future might not be in retail.

Listen to the full session using the player on this page and make plans right now to be here for one of the many shows we have coming up. All you need to do is be a Radio Milwaukee member and watch for the invite, and you can join us for these unforgettable experiences.
