Hop Summer Nights are back on the rails this August

The Hop

Riding on The Hop is a pleasant experience. It’s spacious. It’s clean. It’s quiet. Well, it’s mostly quiet. Much of that depends on the people around you — and whether you’re riding during one of The Hop’s many cool music crossovers.

Speaking of which, those tune-filled rides don’t get much cooler than the Hop Summer Nights program, which is on the verge of returning for its fourth season.

Between 4 and 6 p.m. on two separate Sundays, Aug. 18 and 25, you can board the streetcar for two kinds of cool. The first comes from Pete’s Pops, Milwaukee’s beloved frozen-treat provider that will hand out free “hopsicles” while supplies last. The second is more of a metaphorical cool: live music from pianist JL Russel and his Smoothwalk jazz group.

Hop Summer Nights will happen on the M-Line, which savvy riders know comprises two streetcars. Since JL can’t be in two places at the same time, the free popsicles and music will be contained to just one car. You can find it on either of the Hop Summer Nights by downloading the TransLoc app, looking for an alert pointing you to the correct streetcar and using the app to see its location in real time. Either that, or just use your eyeballs and watch for the streetcar with the Hop Summer Nights window decals.
