Reunion show brings back MKE bands to help one of their own

Cactus Club / GoFundMe

Last December, Lee Olson — singer for Milwaukee band Static Eyes — was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), what most people refer to as Lou Gherig’s Disease. Getting to that point alone was a difficult journey, as Olson shared with WUWM’s Joy Powers earlier this summer. And soon after, friends set up a GoFundMe campaign as one way to help Lee and his wife, Erin.

Earlier today, Tyler Maas over at Milwaukee Record posted about a new effort to lend the Olsons a hand that fans of the city’s garage-rock scene — or really anyone looking to do a solid for someone in need — should be pretty pumped about.

On Nov. 11, Cactus Club will host an event simply titled “Benefit for Lee Olson.” At the time of writing, the concert post was relatively fresh and didn’t even have a lineup attached. Fortunately, Maas had a few additional details so we could help spread the word.

Headlining the night’s bill is Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound, The Compulsive Gamblers, The Oblivians), a longtime Cactus Club favorite who will be joined by a couple reunited Milwaukee bands: The Championship (featuring Joe Crockett of Rx Drugs) and Cactus Club owner Kelsey Kaufmann’s former group, Gallery Night.

You should click over to Maas’s post because he pumps up the show way better than I ever could. But, as a public service, I’ll quickly note tickets are available for $20, $40, $60 and $100, and they're likely to go fast. So hustle over to the ticketing portal if you’re interested in being there. And if you’re just interested in helping the Olsons, please donate to the GoFundMe campaign or buy them something from their Amazon Wishlist.
