MKE Music Premiere: Spin in ‘Circles’ with Cyrus Chrome and Greyhound

Michael Lagerman

Every week, Milwaukee Music Premiere connects the city’s artists with our listening audience. If you’re an artist with a track you’d like us to debut exclusively on Radio Milwaukee, head over to our Music Submission page to learn how.

Are you knee deep in your “going out, staying up late, making ideally harmless mistakes” phase? Then Cyrus Chome and Greyhound’s latest single is for you. Actually, “Circles” is also for you if you’re past that phase. Or experienced that phase second-hand. Or just dig the sound of late-’90s club tracks and want a taste of it again.

To summarize, the song we’re premiering today is a “gotta move” selection that could just as easily soundtrack your night out as your morning routine, depending on how you like to greet the day.

The collaboration between Milwaukee pop artist Cyrus Chrome and DJ/dance-music producer Greyhound eases you in relatively gently, with synth tones and electronic hi-hat backing the first few lyrics. The production builds in complexity soon after, primarily through a persistent low end and mood-heightening snare that trade off on their way to the “drop” about 2 minutes in.

It’s a track that’s more about mood than message, although Chrome did have the latter in mind when putting things together. “The lyrics of the song exist where time is standing still because you are so in the moment with the people you love,” they explained. “‘Running circles around the night’ defines the addictive cycle of dancing, socializing and going on quests to Shawarma King at 2 a.m. before wandering to the afters.”

Whether you’re in or out of that cycle, you can listen to “Circles” anytime using the player at the top of this page. We’ll also spin it on 88Nine throughout today (6:30 and 10:30 a.m.; 2:30, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.) prior to its official release on all streaming platforms this Friday, Aug. 9.
