Every week, Kristopher Pollard from Milwaukee Film and Radio Milwaukee’s Dori Zori talk about movies — because that’s what you do when you’re Cinebuds.
Scan down the Cinebuds archive, and a picture emerges about Dori and Kpolly’s bifurcated approach to selecting their subject matter.
One one side, you’ve got your Deadpool & Wolverine, Furiosa, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the like. On the other, there’s Linoleum, Sasquatch Sunset, Touch and other slightly more obscure, out-there titles. Wondering which camp we find ourselves in this episode? Just read the logline for the film being discussed:
“Can pairing music with psychedelics bring transformative healing to the world?”
Dorothy, we’re not in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anymore.
Where we are is in the creative mind of East Forest, the writer, director and star of Music for Mushrooms — but also much more than that. As he tells Dori during this episode-long discussion, his journey started in music and has taken some fascinating side roads along the way, a few of which merge in his latest film.
Forest’s mission depicted in Music for Mushrooms is lofty and expands slightly on the logline mentioned above: “To pair music with psychedelics to bring about transformative healing to a world in crisis.” Piece of cake, right?
In this conversation, you’ll hear Forest talk about why he took on this lofty challenge, how he moved beyond the typical “talking head” model of documentaries and how the film just might help people find the path forward that’s been in front of them all along.
