Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.

When one of your favorite food spots reopens in a new location, it’s like being reunited with a friend you haven’t seen in a while. That’s how Ann sounded at the top of this week’s episode while talking about Scardina Specialties, which recently opened the doors at 715 E. Locust St.

The Italian deli took a long break from the scene when its previous location on Chambers Street was condemned back in 2021. Now, it has a bright new space to peddle all of the delicious offerings its customers remember: handmade sausage, take-and-bake pizzas, sandwiches, cannoli and more.

We both can’t wait to get back in there and — eventually — try the other places opening up around the city:

  • La Chinampa will bring a Mexican option to the former Boo Boo’s at 405 S. 2nd St, with classic dishes along with an interesting lineup of burgers.
  • J. Leinenkugel’s Barrel Yard is officially the Restaurant to Be Named Later at American Family Field.
  • Ninja Japanese Steakhouse will turn the former Catch 22 on Milwaukee Street into three floors of sushi, teppanyaki grilling, bars and private karaoke rooms.

Enjoy this week’s 13-minute of fun, and don’t forget to use those buttons at the top of the page to subscribe, like, review and share. Thanks.
