Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.
Few people can claim a bigger role in bringing food from across Asia to Milwaukee than Jongsoo Kim. The man behind places like Korean bistro Maru and sushi restaurant Kanpai Izakaya is on the verge of doing it again — and that’s where we start this episode.
More accurately, we start at the Landmark Building in the Third Ward, where a conspicuously large restaurant space has sat vacant since Fool’s Errand departed in July 2022. That won’t be the case starting in February, when Sinabro takes over more than 4,000 square feet to serve up a menu of Korean and Chinese food.
Co-owners Jongsoo Kim and Haneul Kim haven’t revealed too much more about the venture at this point besides the meaning behind its name — a Korean expression for “slowly but surely.” As more information slowly ekes out, we’ll bring you updates. In the meantime, here’s what else we chat about on this episode:
- The Holy Serpent Bake Sale is back to hook you up with holiday goodies and to raise money for Too Young to Wed.
- In our first of three Milwaukee Magazine exclusives, Chef Adam Pawlak explores the wonders of Aldi (only in the latest issue).
- We also dip into the pantry to give you eight international food picks that should always be on hand at home.
- Finally, with snow season coming, Annabella Shore from Birch helps curate your home bar so you’re ready to combat cabin fever.
We know you’re not sick of us yet, but unfortunately you’ll have to do without me and Ann for the next couple weeks as we go on our holiday break. We’ll be back with new episodes in the new year, giving you ample time to leave a review wherever you listen or share us with a friend. Thanks.
