Music will liven up the RiverWalk starting this week

Pabst Theater Group

If you’ve spent any amount of time in downtown Milwaukee, you can conjure the picturesque RiverWalk experience: strolling across the boards, cloud-dotted sky overhead, pausing for a beverage with waterfront views.

Thanks to a new initiative from the Milwaukee Theater District (and, in the interest of full disclosure, sponsored by Radio Milwaukee), you can add live music to that scene.

“It’s Alive on the RiverWalk” will feature busker-style performances by local musicians, artists and street performers at a handful of locations along the pedestrian promenade. The entertainment starts July 19 and wraps up Sept. 16, taking place every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the run.

“Not only do the Milwaukee Theater District’s members deliver amazing performances nightly at their venues in Milwaukee, each performance also attracts ticket buyers from near and far who are all ready to experience all of the beauty that Milwaukee has to offer,” said Gary Witt, president and CEO of the Pabst Theater Group, which will handle booking for the program. “We are pleased to show off our one of a kind RiverWalk via these buskers.”

This Wednesday will deliver two helpings of music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 3 to 7 p.m. The first batch includes recent State of Sound guest Cullah at the Riverside Theater, Jacob Slade at Pere Marquette Park and Dandy L. Freling at Milwaukee Public Market. The second slate will bring Ben Perlstein to the Riverside, Mathilda to Pere Marquette and Hanna Simone to Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequilaria.

Other confirmed artists for July include:

  • July 22 (3-7 p.m.) — Blacktop at Lakefront Brewery, Maximiano at a location TBD
  • July 26 — Caley Conway at Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequilaria
  • July 29 (3-7 p.m.) — Micah Emrich at Lakefront Brewery

More acts will be announced in the weeks ahead and added to the performance calendar on the Visit Milwaukee website. If you happen to be an artist interested in joining the entertainment lineup, you can submit your info here.
