Songwriter Harlan Howard famously described country music as “three chords and the truth.” Two artists coming to Milwaukee in the months ahead have that and more in their arsenal, bringing an inarguable level of musicianship and earnestness to The Back Room @ Colectivo:
Dan Rodriguez | 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
Raised in Detroit and currently calling Minneapolis home, Rodriguez’s music rides a country wavelength that isn't afraid to get personal. He released the first half of a double-EP album, “Troubadour Family Man” last Friday. Tickets for the upcoming show are on sale now at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online.
Son Little | 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7
Our own Dan Reiner encapsulated Son Little nicely prior to his first-weekend appearance at Summerfest: “What makes Son Little great is his ability to blend the sounds of old-school R&B with new-age bluegrass and blues by using just a little twang in his guitar and the rasp of his voice. His lyrics are poignant and full of emotion.”
Little made that clear during a Studio:Milwaukee session back in 2015 and will no doubt do it again at his upcoming show, tickets for which go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online.
