Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.
Being the dedicated professional she is, Ann goes to great lengths to gather food news from across Milwaukee (and occasionally Wisconsin) so she can pass that information on to you. We benefit from that on the podcast by getting reports from her far-flung travels, including a recent trek all the way to Hales Corners.
A whole 20 minutes from Radio Milwaukee HQ, this village to the southwest is known for all kinds of things: Boerner Botanical Gardens, Whitnall Park and — for our purposes — an Indian restaurant named after one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Calling your establishment “Taj Mahal” might be seen as setting expectations high. Based on Ann’s experience, the restaurant clears that bar by “doing some classic — and less seen — dishes quite well.” She calls attention to their aloo gobi and chana masala, both of which you can hear more about in this episode, as well as a couple new Indian eateries to try.
And our travels don’t stop there:
- The next stop is West Allis and a tour of its food options that Ann undertook for a print-only story in Milwaukee Magazine.
- Also only in the magazine is a review of Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. on South 76th Street in Greenfield.
- Just down the way from Radio Milwaukee in Bay View, Honeypie Cafe has kicked off its 15 Days of Gratitude as part of an anniversary celebration.
- Junior’s Smoked BBQ is making moves (literally) by sliding from Sherman Phoenix to a shared space with Amaranth Bakery.
We’ll keep things moving and collect another batch of new food-related things happening around the area so we can share them with you next week. Until then, enjoy listening to this episode and consider leaving a rating/review wherever you devour This Bites. Thanks.
