A couple of weeks ago, we featured Milwaukee's first Syrian restaurant, Damascus Gate. The restaurant was founded by Syrian refugees.
Milwaukee is home to quite a few refugees from all over the world. Between 2002 and 2016, 13,671 refugees resettled in Wisconsin, records from the U.S. Department of State show. And that means these new Milwaukeeans bring with them cuisines from their home countries.
Three Milwaukee restaurants - Amilinda, The Tandem and Tricklebee Cafe want to highlight some of these cuisines with a new pop-up dinner series called Tables Across Borders. The series will feature cuisines from Syria, Serbia, Ethopia and more. There will even be a dinner featuring Rohingya cuisine. According to WUWM, Milwaukee has the largest Rohingya refugee community in America.
There will be six dinners that will be located at the three restaurants. Tickets for each dinner will cost $60 and one hundred percent of the proceeds go to the chef preparing the dinner. Check out the schedule below.
